Australia Ensemble And Sydney Children’s Choir: A Flock Of Stars

Sydney Children's Choir
Sydney Children’s Choir

The Australia Ensemble is delighted to be joined by the Sydney Children’s Choir and celebrated musical director Lyn Williams OAM, in A Flock of Stars, a program named for one of her works. In this choral and instrumental collaboration, the  music performed is mainly by Australian composers. The evening begins in the dubious surrounds of a Parisian nightclub with Guillaume Connesson’s Techno-Parade, before a celebration of the life of the late Australian composer Roger Smalley in his Piano Quintet. The warmly satisfying glow of Brahms’ String Sextet in G draws the season to a close, perhaps the pinnacle of this composer’s chamber music for strings.

The 60 strong choir of young people mostly aged 16 and younger, will also perform music by Debussy, Artistic Chair of the Australia Ensemble Paul Stanhope, Joseph Twist, and Sydney Children’s Choir founding director Lyn Williams.

The programme:

Guillaume CONNESSON Techno-Parade (2002)
Roger SMALLEY Piano Quintet (2003)
Claude DEBUSSY Christmas carol for homeless children (1915)
Lyn WILLIAMS A Flock of Stars (2009)
Joseph TWIST Jubilate Deo (2009)
Paul STANHOPE Songs of Innocence and Joy (2004)
Johannes BRAHMS String Sextet in G op. 36 (1864-5)
