Australian Chamber Orchestra HomeCasts Features Solo Cello

The Australian Chamber Orchestra HomeCasts this week, features Principal Cello Timo-Veikko ‘Tipi’ Valve prforming a heartfelt solo concert from Richard Tognetti’s home, featuring Bach’s Cello Suite No.2 and Sibelius’s Theme and Variations for Solo Cello.

Missing the stimulation of live performance, Valve says ” While I desperately wanted to perform, it didn’t seem right to play something overly joyful. I wasn’t playing to lift my mood or the listener’s mood. I was just trying to express it.

I always turn to Bach, it somehow resonates with all situations, but I also needed to play something from home, from Finland. Both of the works I chose for this concert are in the contemplative key of D minor, a key that corresponds well with the Finnish melancholic spirit.”
