Australian Youth Orchestra Calls For Applications

The Australian Youth Orchestra invites applications from Australia’s most talented pre-professional musicians to participate in prestigious national and international musical programs offered by the AYO in 2016. The AYO runs innovative musical programs for musicians aged 12-30, and is an internationally recognised orchestral training-ground.

Applications open 25 May and close on 12 June. 

Each year the AYO receives over 1000 applications from gifted musicians across Australia. The AYO selects the nation’s best musical talent, and grants young musicians opportunities to work with some of Australia’s and the world’s most celebrated conductors, tutors, industry professionals and musicians. The AYO’s 2016 offerings also include programs in composition, music writing, orchestral management and sound production. 

Following the success of AYO’s 2013 European tour which saw standing ovations in sold-out concerts, young musicians will have the opportunity to apply for the AYO’s 2016 International Tour, which will send an AYO ensemble to Europe, Asia and Australia. Musicians chosen for the International Tour will have the chance to develop their skills in performance and musicianship under the baton of conductor Manfred Honeck, and will work closely with famed pianist Hélène Grimaud. 

Auditions are held in every capital city, and are scheduled throughout August and September. In addition, the AYO will hold auditions in regional centres including Orange, Townsville, and Armidale.
