austraLYSIS: Journeys And Constructions

australysis_135

austraLYSIS  presents Journeys and Constructions, a performance which presents sound and audio-visual works on themes of the walk, exploring and creating environments, and dislocation.

The idea of niche construction by both living and artificial-life forms, leads to images and sounds beyond those discoverable in our own present environments. These sounds can contribute to a dislocation of person or form, sometimes in conjunction with enforced environments, as in human trafficking.

The event includes premieres of several new works by members of austraLYSIS, together with important electroacoustic works of Xenakis and Dhomont, rarely if ever presented in Australia. From austraLYSIS comes sound and video by David Worrall (his new work Corpo Real with Udo Rink); text and sound from Hazel Smith (Bird Migrants 2, and Metaphor), the latter involving live coding of sonic construction;  Weaving the Rugs, for trumpet and algorithmic accompaniment by Roger Dean;  the latest in Greg White’s explorations of sonic diversification, Replicant 2; and pieces by Sandy Evans, guest Andy Milne, and Roger Dean, based on work for the Bimblebox installation project of Boyd and Alison Clouston, focusing on the ecosystem of a potentially ‘coal-constrained’ environment.

Since 1970 austraLYSIS has evolved from commissioning and premiering new compositions, and presenting contemporary classics, together with improvised music, to one which creates real-time computer interactive work, and elaborately composed acousmatic music, often in intermedia contexts involving real-time image manipulation and text presentation and generation. Most work is created by members of the ensemble, often collaboratively.
