‘Elektra’ around the world

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra presents a staged version of  Richard Strauss’ opera Elektra in late February.  American soprano Christine Goerke performs as Elektra, a role she has made her own. From the rave reviews she had gathered, this concert is certain to be a memorable one – but tickets are scarce.

Here are links to some of the reviews of Christine Goerke singing Elektra at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden in September 2013, from The Guardian and The Telegraph.

Leipzig and Dresden have also staged productions with star ensembles circling soprano Evelyn Herlitzius as Elektra. Click here for the review in The Spectator

This year is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss, born on 11th June 1864.
