End-Of-Financial-Year Males: The Spooky Men’s Chorale

Fresh from a rock crushing and exhilarating 2017, the Spooky Men’s Chorale have emerged blinking into this year with a perverse desire to rebuild the man mountain of deep hearted and terminally foolish singing which have made them a byword amongst discriminating human critters.

The show amounts to a sometimes boofy, sometimes absurd, sometimes gossamer-delicate narrative through the particularities of being a bloke, musically speaking.

Common reactions amongst those who have been exposed to this somewhat more than two-dimensional experience have included: windswept hair from giant manchords, snorting/guffawing to inappropriate excess, and slight moistening of the eyes during tender portions.

Each concert is a dizzying cornucopia of musical adventures which all serve to both ennoble and ridicule the paradoxes of man-ness. The repertoire, which began with a simple combination of Georgian table songs, immaculate ballads and tawdry anthems like Don’t stand between a man and his tool, has expanded to include sly and witty commentary on their own favourite body parts and a mock Sufi ode to the Bee Gees.

The Spooky Men have been doing this for 17 years, including many festivals and tours, seven largescale adventures to the UK and six CDs. For this occasion, they will delicately garnish their much-loved back-catalogue with their newest adventures into beauty and stupidity, somewhat like a chocolate muffin with bits of chocolate in it.
