The historic Independent Theatre presents a series of four concerts through Sydney’s winter months, featuring the Enigma Quartet, the Flinders Quartet, the Marais Project and more. Each takes place on the third Sunday of the month, from May to August and all include complimentary refreshments at intermission.

The Enigma Quartet performs the first afternoon of music with works by Kreisler, Massenet, Debussy, Satie, Elgar and many more. The first half of the programme features Mozart’s classical masterpiece, the String Quartet no. 17 in B-flat major K 458, the ‘Hunt’. The second half follows up with a fabulous feast of musical bonbonnieres with enchanting melodies, old-world charm, nostalgic sentiment and petite perfection!

From its origins as four music students busking on the streets of Sydney, the last decade has seen the Enigma Quartet emerge as one of the country’s brightest and most versatile professional young string quartets. This intrepid foursome of Marianne Broadfoot, Kerry Martin (violins), Elizabeth Woolnough (guest viola) and Rowena Macneish (cello) are united by friendship and a shared passion for chamber music and live performance.

The Enigma Quartet made its Huntington Festival debut in 2014, and were invited to perform in Musica Viva’s Coffee Concert Series in 2015 and 2013.

The programme: Mozart String Quartet no. 17 in B-flat KV 458, ‘The Hunt’/ Plus favourite encores and miniatures by Kreisler, Massenet, Debussy, Satie, Elgar and others.
