Flying West – Music By Ann Carr-Boyd

Capture

Regarded as one of Australia’s foremost composers, Ann Carr-Boyd has produced a diverse and prolific output of chamber music over the years. Her composition Fandango was voted one of the top 100 works in ABC Classic FM’s survey of chamber music.

Presented by Thoroughbass and Wirripang, Flying West is a concert of music by Ann Carr-Boyd which represents the culmination of 2 years of work, reviving a bottom-drawerful of manuscripts from 40 years ago. These works were written for the The Consort of Sydney led by Robert Goode, and have lain dormant since the group disbanded after its decade of touring Australia and Europe. These works have now been published and recorded in a massive undertaking.

Ann’s music is full of character and charm – experience the tedium and anxiety of the doctor’s waiting room in Flying West (a joyful and fun-filled suite for recorder, harpsichord and cello, composed in 2014), and how to bake a cake in The Boomerang Chocolate Cake, complete with banging saucepans and a good slurp of wine.

The programme:

Folksongs 76 – soprano, harpsichord, cello, recorder, guitar, percussion/ Nadir – harpsichord/Textures and Variations – recorder, violin, cello, harpsichord/Flying West – recorder, cello, harpsichord (new work)/ITT – harpsichord/Catch 75 – soprano, recorder, cello, harpsichord, percussion/Folksongs 78 – soprano, harpsichord, cello, recorder, guitar, percussion.
