Music has the incredible power to heal and to soothe. Building on this, Dr Catherine Crock, a physician at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital established the the HUSH Foundation and working alongside other health professionals and musicians, she has curated numerous recorded collections of music that help to calm and soothe young patients, their families and treating staff.

In November 2016, the HUSH Foundation will release its latest album HUSH 16: A Piece of Quiet. Featured on the album are the ARIA winning artists Lior and The Idea of North (TION) performing the music of Elena Kats-Chernin.

Australian singer-songwriter Lior, won the ARIA Award with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for Best Classical Album in 2014. The father of two, feels this collaboration is one of the highlights of his career and one that’s reminded him of the innocence and brilliance of childhood.

A capella group, The Idea of North won ARIA Awards for Best Jazz Album in 2010 with James Morrison (Feels Like Spring)  and 2013 (Smile).

Together with renowned composer Elena Kats-Chernin, they have collaborated with Australian children in hospitals and at home, to create this new release. Nick Begbie, founding member of TION was impressed by not only the contribution of the children to the collaboration, but also the long-term impact the album will have on those who hear it.

Hush 16: A Piece of Quiet draws on new and different musical styles, and includes the invaluable contribution of Elena Kats-Chernin who has been involved in two previous Hush albums.

“It’s been an incredible journey from start to finish,” she said. “Seeing the album come to life from the initial discussions with the children, through to the workshopping of the lyrics and creation of the musical scores – the whole process has been nothing short of magical.”

The launch of Hush 16: A Piece of Quiet will take place at the City Recital Hall in Sydney on November 15, 2016. The Melbourne launch event is scheduled for the following week on November 24th, 2016 at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
