IFAC – Australian Singing Competition semi-final
Ten aspiring singers line up this week in the semi-finals if the IFAC Australian Singing Competition for 2012. At stake are five places in the final later this month, which offers more than $200,000 in prize money and opportunities to further, if not to launch a career as a classical singer.
The semi-finalists are:
Thomas Atkins 22 tenor NZ
Charlotte Betts-Dean 22 mezzo soprano VIC
Amy Corkery 25 soprano NSW
Anna Dowsley 25 mezzo soprano NSW
Jeremy Kleeman 21 bass baritone VIC
Alexander Knight 22 baritone NSW
Jenny Liu 23 soprano NSW
Tabatha McFadyen 22 soprano QLD
Kathryn Radcliffe 25 soprano VIC, and
Daniel Todd 25 tenor VIC.
They have been selected from trans-Tasman and national heats, for which the adjudicators included Marie Rya and Glenn Winslade in NSW, Narelle French and Natalie Peluso in Queensland, Stephen Grant and Suzanne Johnston in Victoria and Burhan Güner and Patricia Price in Western Australian.
Adjudicating the semifinals will be Peter Czornyj, Michael Halliwell and Anthony Legge. Past winners of the competition include Stuart Skelton, Rachelle Durkin, Amelia Farrugia and Jeffrey Black., who this year is the national adjudicator.
The semi-final competition will be complemented by a Master Class the following morning.
The finals concert is on Thursday 25th October at 7 pm in the Opera Theatre of the Sydney Opera House.
