IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition (ASC) Opens For Entries

The IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition (ASC) invites singers to compete for the prestigious Marianne Mathy Scholarship (‘The Mathy’) and number of valuable career-building awards and opportunities. The competition is open to emerging opera and classical singers under the age of 26 (as at 23 June 2017).

Entries close on March 10, 2017. Late entries close on March 14. Heats will be held between April 1 and April 9, in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and overseas, in London and Auckland.

Well into its third decade discovering, rewarding and providing career opportunities to budding singers previous winners of “The Mathy” include Rachelle Durkin, Amelia Farrugia, Nicholas Tolputt and Stuart Skelton.

The 2017 National Adjudicator is mezzo-soprano Catrin Johnsson. Catrin was born in Sweden and completed her formal training at the Royal Academy of Music in London (Performance and Opera Course) where she graduated with a Dip.RAM and LRAM. She has appeared for many international companies including the English National Opera and Opera Holland Park. Catrin also regularly performs on the concert platform in Europe, Scandinavia, the UK and New Zealand. Catrin is an international guest tutor of the New Zealand Singing School and is an Artist Teacher at the University of Auckland.

Entries open Friday 17 February/ Entries close Friday 10 March/ Late entries close Tuesday 14 March.
