Soprano Nadia Piave sings ‘standards’ – sweet, sad and sassy, joined by Gino Pengue on guitar in just a sweet old song….

You’ll hear songs by Henry Mancini, Hoagy Carmichael, Charles Trenet, Domenico Modugno, Cole Porter, Jacques Brel, Gino Paoli, Sidney Bechet, Rodgers and Hart, Ivor Novello and more…

‘Standards’ are those wonderful old songs that live in the various ‘songbooks’ of different nations; we’ve heard them in movies from the 40s, heard them in bars and nightclubs from New York to Berlin, from Hong Kong to Sydney. They take us back to another time…and make us smile (and sometimes maybe even cry too…). Gotta love a ‘standard’, gotta love a sweet old song…

Nadia Piave is a performer , teacher, and choral leader, and every now again goes off and bones up on classic 20th century theatre texts. She is currently exploring the jazz vocal ‘standards’ repertoire of the 20th and 21st century.

Gino Pengue is a guitarist with a mind as enquiring as Nadia’s, and relishes the opportunity to perform anything from 17th century madrigals through to early 20th century ‘Art songs’, as well as the ‘standards’ of the Neapolitan canzone and the French ‘cafe chant’ traditions.
