New Release From Sony Features Daniel Dodds

Violinist Daniel Dodds who so notably led the Australian World Orchestra conducted by Maestro Zubin Mehta in their recent performances of R Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben in Sydney and Melbourne, features in a new recording, Mozart Haffner Serenade on Sony Classical due for release on 21 October 2022.

On this recording, Dodds plays a Stradivari “ex Hämmerle – ex Baumgartner” from 1717 with the Festival Strings Lucerne, performing Mozart’s March for orchestra in D major, K. 249 and the Serenade No. 7 in D major, K. 250 (248b), “Haffner.” This is followed by the world premiere recording of an excerpt from the opera Gerusalemme liberata by the Italian composer, singer and kapellmeister and Mozart’s contemporary, Vincenzo Maria Righini, (b. Bologna,1756 d. Bologna,1812). 

Born in Adelaide in 1971, Dodds was appointed Artistic Director of the Festival Strings Lucerne in 2012 after serving as its principal concertmaster since 2000. In 2008 Claudio Abbado appointed Dodds to the Lucerne Festival Orchestra where he has remained a member every summer since. Dodds also performs as a freelance soloist, most recently appearing with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana under Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Australian World Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, and the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Dodds performs as a chamber musician as well, working with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as guest concertmaster, the Camerata Salzburg, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. HIs chamber music partners include Dimitri and Vovka Ashkenazy, Kolja Blacher and James Galway. Dodds teaches violin and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik – Luzern.
