The NSW Drs Orchestra will gather eighty medical professionals and students under its banner to perform a concert for the 9th consecutive year to fund its continuing  partnership with Sydney Eisteddfod to sponsor the NSW Drs Orchestra Sydney Eisteddfod Instrumental Scholarship in 2017.

Prizes valued at $10,500 will go to some of the best emerging Australian instrumentalists aged 16-25 years of age who take part in the Scholarship this year.

Founder and manager of the NSW Drs Orchestra, Doctor Cathy Fraser, said Musicus Medicus (the orchestra’s stage name) aims to use the universal language of music to raise money for charities in medicine and the arts.

Titled From Russia with Love, the concert’s program includes Elena Kats-Chernin’s Russian Rag, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 and Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto and features violin soloist Susan Collins.

Sydney Eisteddfod is a not-for-profit organisation that runs one of the most successful competitive performing arts festivals of its type in the world with an average of 350 annual events in eight categories. Participants derive mostly from NSW/ACT but also from other states and New Zealand.

Proceeds from the concert will also benefit Freedom Across Australia, a charity that provides escorted touring for people with disability throughout Australia.
