Writer, scholar, translator and lecturer Dr Rosamund Bartlett presents Zigfrid and Bryungilda, a presentation on Russian Wagnerians for the Wagner Society of New South Wales.

Rosamund Bartlett has a doctorate from Oxford University on Wagner and Russia. Her most recent books include Tolstoy: A Russian Life and a new translation of Anna Karenina.  

She has also written a biography of Chekhov and currently works with the Anton Chekhov Foundation overseeing translations of his early short stories and letters. She has lectured on Russian literature, music and cultural history.

As part of this presentation she will be playing a number of rare recordings of great singers of Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union.

The presentation will be followed by afternoon tea.

At 12.30 the screening of the DVD of Visconti’s Ludvig will continue. It stars Helmut Berger, with Romy Schneider as Empress Elizabeth, Trevor Howard as Wagner and Silvana Mangano as Cosima.

This episode includes the beautiful depiction of the first performance of the Siegfried Idyll.

Due to the length of the DVD, its screening will be spread out before the February, March, April meetings.
