Short+Sweet Announces January 2016 Cabaret Festival

Singing Woman with Retro Microphone

Short+Sweet – Australia’s own short-form performing arts event has announced its new cabaret festival for January 2016.

Planning over 40 inspiring 10-minute productions showcasing myriad performance styles, the festival will run at New Theatre, Newtown from 6-30 January 2016.

Short+Sweet Cabaret will offer themed programs of Dance/Movement, Musical Theatre, and Burlesque – Wednesday to Saturday across four huge weeks at New Theatre. As usual, the festival also offers an array of forums and masterclasses with industry professionals to help newcomers get their cabaret from their bedroom/lounge room/studio to the stage!

Festival Director, James Taylor (Royal Ballet London, The Magician’s Cabaret, El Circo, Risque Revue) said that merging theatre and music in the performing art of cabaret, creates an atmosphere of exploration, energy, politics, stories, characters, burlesque, songs, and silliness. “Short+Sweet Cabaret is a forum where new ideas are tested, risks are taken, where the performers and audience share and intimate experience of something new, and never seen before.”

Registrations are open now at http://www.shortandsweet.org/cabaret. Prospective performers can contact James with queries at james@shortandsweet.org

EXTRA!! SHORT+SWEET COMEDY + MAGIC

As part of Short+Sweet Cabaret Sydney 2016, special performances of Short+Sweet Magic and Short+Sweet Comedy are also planned. Expressions of interest are welcome via the Short+Sweet Cabaret page as above or by contacting Pete Malicki on pete@shortandsweet.org.
