Skride Piano Quartet Tours For Musica Viva

Skride Piano Quartet

The Skride Piano Quartet is bringing its dazzling energy to Australia for the first time. Touring with Musica Viva Australia, the four leading soloists unite in two programs of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Richard Strauss alongside a world premiere by Australian composer, Graeme Koehne.

The Skride Quartet was formed in 2016 by sisters Baiba and Lauma Skride and violist Lise Bertaud, who are joined on this tour by cellist Julian Steckel. They’ve quickly grown into a close-knit chamber ensemble in great demand. In 2018/19, invitations have taken them to Wigmore Hall in London, the Louvre in Paris, a tour of Germany and other prestigious events worldwide.

Their success is founded on generations of expertise. The Skride sisters were born into great musical talent – their mother an accompanist, late father a choral conductor, and grandmother teaching them how to sing. Baiba Skride picked up her violin at just four years of age, paving the way for a global music career. A sought-after chamber musician, she has worked with renowned orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Boston and Chicago Symphony Orchestras and the New York Philharmonic.

Her sister Lauma has followed a similar trajectory, winning the Beethoven Ring and performing as a solo pianist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

The Skride Piano Quartet will tour to Newcastle, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Melbourne and Hobart.
