Swopera: Voices for Marriage Equality in Australia

With the news that Britain’s House of Commons has approved same-sex marriage in England and Wales,  a Sydney recital with a twist aims to raise funds for Australian Marriage Equality.

Sopranos and tenors, altos and baritones swap arias to raise money and awareness for marriage equality rights in Australia. Popular arias by Mozart, Puccini, Bizet, Bernstein and others will be reinterpreted and performed as they never have been before. By swapping gender roles the pieces uncover hidden meanings, some hilarious, some heart-breaking.

All proceeds will go to Australian Marriage Equality. Speakers include the Hon. Michael Kirby and Alex Greenwich MP. Composer Paul Smith will premier a new work written for the event for soprano, clarinet and piano.

Tickets: 40/30
