Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival To Go Ahead

Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival (SIWJF) is going ahead in 2020, with the city’s clubs and venues alive with the sound of more than 30 leading female musicians celebrating music from Australia and the world.

Now in its ninth year, this live music festival is planned to run for 10 days with exceptional artistry showcased by innovative and diverse contemporary musicians, all eager to perform before live audiences. Expect breath-taking improvised solo performances, vibrant Afro-Cuban ensembles and the remarkable multiplicity of music which makes this a festival to inspire. Performances will take place in seated, COVID-safe venues across the city.

Featured artists include Gai Bryant and her 10 piece big band Caribe and sextet ALLY, Melody Riviera, Emma Pask, Elana Stone, Monica Trapaga, Mahalia Barnes, The Soulmates, Elysian Fields, Hilary Geddes, Jodi Michael, Keyna Wilkins, Mary Anne Piper, Chloe Kim and others.

Dr Sandy Evans OAM will feature in live and streamed events including a screening of her 2019 premiere Ahisma: Meditations on Gandhi. Evans will also premiere a new work for all female big band Pharos.

The festival culminates in a world premiere when Sandy is joined by Japanese koto master Satsuki Odamura and bassist Steve Elphick at Venue 505.
