The ASQ changes its line up
Earlier this month, it was announced that violinist Anne Horton and cellist Rachel Johnson, will leave the Adelaide based Australian String Quartet after a career of 6 years with the ensemble. The upcoming Schubert tour will be the last for the pair.
Their departure follows the departures of violinist Sophie Rowell and violist Sally Boud, to whose positions, Kristian Winther and Stephen King were appointed.
For the Schubert tour, the ASQ will be joined by guest artist Timo-Veikko Valve, who will appear courtesy of the ACO, to perform Schubert’s high-spirited and moving double cello quintet.
Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Adelaide, the ASQ was established in 1985 and has had a major impact on the musical life of Australia, performing works of the great masters as well as commissioning and premiering many works by leading Australian composers.
