The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra has a new string to its bow – so to speak – with the formation of the Brandenburg Young Voices who will perform alongside the Brandenburg Choir in the ensemble’s upcoming performances of Mozart’s Requiem. The concert is also the first time that the Brandenburg has performed Handel’s mighty Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah which will be sung by these combined forces of over 100 voices.

Soprano Amy Moore, alto Maximilian Riebl, tenor Paul Sutton and bass Alexander Knight are the four young emerging soloists who will join the Brandenburg Choir, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Artistic Director and Conductor Paul Dyer for Mozart’s Requiem. The programme will include early music by Palestrina and di Lasso.

Two of the soloists first performed in Brandenburg concerts as boy trebles – tenor Paul Sutton with the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir in Sydney in 2003 and Maximilian Riebl, winner of the 2015 IFAC Australian Singing Competition, with the Melbourne Grammar School Chapel Choir in Melbourne in 2008.

Hayden Barrington first performed with the Brandenburg as a boy treble with Trinity Grammar School in 2008 and returned as a baritone to the Brandenburg Choir in 2015.

Paul Dyer has long been an advocate of educational programmes and support for emerging artists. Along with Anna Sandström in Sydney and Philip Carmody in Melbourne, who will be guest conductors during this tour, he has established a specially selected choir in each city.

Ranging in age from 8-17 years, the young singers have won their places in the choir by audition. Some of them already sing with school or with others children’s choirs. Entry to the Brandenburg Young Voices is an unparallelled opportunity for these young singers to work and perform alongside professional adult singers and instrumentalists.
