2014 Gramophone Classical Music Awards

Just as Sydney is recovering from ‘Kaufmannia’ after the recent tour of Jonas Kaufmann, comes news from Gramophone Magazine that his recording of Schubert’s Winterreise with pianist Helmut Deutsch for Sony Classical, has won the Solo Vocal Gramophone Classical Music Award for 2014.

A recording of Brahms’ Symphonies by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly for Decca, won the orchestral category.

Pianist Arcadi Volodos won in the instrumental category for the music of Mompou recorded for Sony Classical and a FRA Musica DVD of Ravel’s L’heure espagnole and L’enfant et les sortilèges  by the Glyndebourne Chorus and soloists with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kazushi Ono won the opera division.

Chandos records had success in the concerto category with it recording of Prokofiev’s Complete Piano Concertos by pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.
