The Sydney Consort Performs Scottish Baroque
The Sydney Consort presents a concert of Scottish classical music and folk tunes showcasing the instrumental combination of fiddles with flute and harp which produce typical Scottish folk music.
In the 18th century Scotland, the traditional instrument, the bagpipe began to languish, moving from centre stage and being replaced by the violin, joined by the harp in creating the dance rhythms of the Scottish jig, its charming harmony and hunting sounds.
This is a programme of joyful Scottish music both traditional and classical. This selection of varied and interesting works by Scottish composers are paired with the music of the Italian composer Francesco Geminiani in a fresh and engaging perspective of their work.
