Acacia Quartet – The Company We Keep

download (1)

The Acacia Quartet is keeping excellent company for its final concert for the year, performing the music of George Gershwin, Fritz Kreisler, Philip Glass and Joseph Twist.

The four musicians, violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violist Stefan Duwe and cellist Anna Martin-Scrase  formed the Acacia Quartet in 2010. Already they have won acclaim with award nominations, regular broadcasts, recordings, performances and a special role in interpreting the chamber music of contemporary Australian composers.

They open their concert with George Gershwin’s little known gem Lullaby, which sat on his bookshelf unplayed for over twenty years; this is followed by the hypnotic String Quartet No 2 by Philip Glass, used in the stage version of Samuel Beckett’s soliloquy called Company. As well, there are groovy dance beats from New York based Australian APRA Award winning composer Joe Twist, in his Dancing With Somebody. Finally a touch of Viennese charm and finesse with Fritz Kreisler’s elegant String Quartet.

Tickets: Adults $45/ Concession $35/ Under 18 $10/ Family $90.
The ticket price includes a reception after the concert.
