Bel A Cappella: In The Beginning

Under the direction of Anthony Pasquill, Bel A Cappella with organist David Drury presents In the beginning – titled after Gabriel Jackson’s motet which will be heard for the first time in Australia. Also in the programme, another Australian premiere, David Briggs’ Messe pour Notre Dame.

There will also be music by Orlando Gibbons and William Byrd, along with Finzi’s Lo, the full final sacrifice. 

Gabriel Jackson, born in 1962, was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral and studied composition at the Royal College of Music in London.  A major British composer of the 21st century, his music has been presented at festivals and concert halls around the world.

Composer and organist David Briggs was also born in 1962. He has affiliations with major cathedrals in England and teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music and at Cambridge University.
