Ensemble Offspring: Arc Electric – Change The Way You Think About Music

Arc

Ensemble Offspring presents Arc Electric, a showcase of bold and brilliant compositions by female composers from around the world in celebration of International Women’s Day. Ensemble Offspring is Australia’s leading exponents of adventurous new music and in 2017, Ensemble Offspring is performing music composed exclusively by women.

Drawing inspiration from sources as diverse and intriguing as bird calls and honeybees, horizontality and Renaissance paintings, Arc Electric includes an Australian premiere and a world premiere. It is a concert to change the way you think about music.

Hear why Australian composer Liza Lim and acclaimed expats Kate Moore and Melody Eötvös have earned enviable reputations around the world and discover the impressive talent of the emerging composer Cassie To. Add to this an undisputed classic from Finland’s Kaija Saariaho and the Australian premiere of a work by Estonia’s Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes and you’ll find a global perspective on the state of music today unfolding in your very own backyard.

To’s work Avialae was commissioned for premiere in 2015 as part of a young composers initiative. The concert also features internationally acclaimed Finnish composer, Kaija Saariaho, who’s opera L’Amour de Loin was recently premiered by the New York Metropolitan Opera, only the second work by a woman composer ever presented by the company.
