Ironwood’s 10th Anniversary Concert Includes Album Launch
Ironwood, the renowned period instrument ensemble celebrates its 10th anniversary with a Sydney concert and the launch of an album of the music of Brahms, Tones of Romantic Extravagance.
In this special 10th anniversary concert, Ironwood performs Elgar’s Piano Quintet in A minor, Op 84.
Comprising some of Australia’s most outstanding performers and period instrument specialists, Ironwood is one of the nation’s foremost chamber ensembles. In its 10 years of performance, Ironwood has become an international leader in historically informed performance practices, well known for its concerts, recordings and broadcasts that bring to life music of past eras in ways that the composer expected.
“In this concert audiences will hear an interpretation of Elgar’s Piano Quintet that transports them back to the time of Elgar. Ironwood’s interpretation is closely based on performances that the composer heard and undoubtedly respected,” says pianist Neal Peres Da Costa.
Drawing from Ironwood’s larger ensemble, the 20 November concert features performers Robin Wilson (violin), Rachael Beesley (violin), Simon Oswell (viola), Daniel Yeadon (cello) and Neal Peres Da Costa (piano).
