download (1)

In this upcoming concert, Kammer Ensemble explores the 20th century quintet repertoire, culminating with one of the most influential works of chamber music ever written – Schoenberg’s Op.9 the Kammersinfonie. The ensemble investigates how composers from different continents and musical heritages have responded to this work from Zhou Long in China, Jacques Casterede in France and Christopher Gordon in Australia. The concert begins with a salute to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who turns 75 this year.

Kammer Ensemble was formed in 2006 to present the finest chamber music and to programme contemporary music alongside masterpieces from the past. The members of Kammer are experienced chamber musicians renowned for their passion, commitment and technical brilliance.

For the past three years, Kammer Ensemble has presented a concert series in the Illawarra and been ensemble-in-residence at Wollongong University and Conservatorium. In 2008, Kammer presented a celebration of eminent composer and national treasure Peter Sculthorpe as part of their Illawarra series.

Kammer Ensemble is a member of the New Music Network and in 2008 presented ‘Get Cartered’ a concert devoted to legendary American composer Elliott Carter. This year they will present Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, a work which marked a cornerstone in the development of music in the 20th Century.

Kammer Ensemble is represented by Musica Viva and regularly appears in festivals throughout the country. They recently recorded Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet for the ABC Classics ‘100 favorite chamber music works’ CD.
