Anna Netrebko and her husband, tenor Yusif Eyvazov are releasing a new album of love song duets Romanza, on 1 September 2017 ahead of their duo recital in Sydney on 24 October. The double CD with 35 tracks is out on September 1 on the Deutsche Grammophon label.

Romanza is not only Anna Netrebko’s first duet album with husband Yusif, but also her first foray out of the realm of traditional core repertoire. The first CD contains eighteen original love songs written and composed specially for the couple by Russian producer Igor Krutoy who has worked with them for many years and whose one-of-a-kind friendship stems from their collaboration that enabled Igor to write love songs that not only perfectly match their voices, but also are an homage to love in general.

The second of the double CD set has 17 tracks from a variety of operatic styles – the bel canto of Bellini, the lyric style of Dvorak, grand Italian arias from Verdi, light opera from Kalman and Lehar, and a classical offering by Mozart.

Anna met her husband, tenor Yusif Eyvazov, when they starred together in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Rome Opera in March 2014. Since their wedding in December 2015, the couple has appeared in concert and on the opera stage together worldwide. Anna and Yusif open La Scala’s season on 7 December, 2017 in Andrea Chénier with Anna making her role debut as Maddalena.
