SGLC presents ‘None But the Lonely Heart’
For its next major concert, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir is delving into the life, loves, music and legacy of one of the world’s greatest ever composers, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
For this concert, the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir will be joined by a string quartet and a pianist with soprano and baritone soloists to perform some of Tchaikovsky’s most emotionally charged choral and chamber works.
Tchaikovsky’s homosexuality is widely acknowledged. He lamented his inability to live the life he wanted, both in his letters and his music. It is fitting that Sydney’s Gay & Lesbian Choir presents with pride, the heart of this composer through his music, in the context of some of the most haunting and sublime choral works by his admirers, students and successors.
Conducting the ensemble will be its Music Director Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith, with soloists, soprano Julia Wee and baritone Paul Smith. The instrumental ensemble comprises pianist Gareth Chan, violinists Myee Clohessy and Alistair Duff-Forbes, James Eccles, viola and cellist Thomas Rann.
