Exciting news that the conductor and harpsichordist William Christie is returning to Australia with his phenomenal early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants and ensemble of gifted young singers to perform a garland of 18th century Italian opera delights.

For 35 years, Les Arts Florissants and William Christie have been taking audiences on journeys of discovery into the past and recreating the glorious sounds of Baroque opera on instruments of the period. Les Arts Florissants was a pioneer in the renaissance of early music – unearthing treasures that hadn’t been heard for hundreds of years and presenting them in acclaimed performances and recordings to an enchanted audience. Under the leadership of William Christie, the orchestra has toured the world, created a significant discography and collaborated with performers and theatre directors of distinction.

William Christie has become known as a remarkably prescient talent-spotter of the next generation of Baroque singers.  Le Jardin des Voix (The Garden of Voices) is his biennial academy for the world’s brightest and best young singers, held over a two-week intensive course at Théâtre de Caen, followed by a concert tour. Six laureates of the most recent program join Les Arts Florissant to present a semi-staged production of rare and well-loved Italian lyric treasures from the 17th and 18th centuries, including works by Cimarosa, Scarlatti, Handel, Vivaldi and others – an evening In An Italian Garden.
