The Metropolitan Orchestra’s June concert features pianist Simon Tedeschi with Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams in a performance of Grieg’s much-loved Piano Concerto in A minor, opus 16.

The June performance will take the audience on another exciting journey through a varied landscape of music starting in Australia with Peter Sculthorpe’s From Uluru, then moving to Europe with Grieg and finally finishing in America with Dvorak’s Symphony No 9, From The New World.

Sculthorpe’s From Uluru speaks of the Australian landscape, its people and the spirit of this country, a beautiful example of his composing brilliance.

From the famous cascading opening chords to the spirited dance of the finale, the influence of Norwegian folk music can be heard throughout Grieg’s piano concerto which is one of the composer’s most popular works and among the most popular of all piano concerti.

Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World”, popularly known as the New World Symphony was composed in 1893 while Dvorak was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America. One of the most popular symphonies of all time, astronaut Neil Armstrong took a recording of it with him on the first moon landing in 1969.

Simon Tedeschi has entertained the likes of the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, Vladimir Putin, George W Bush and Nelson Mandela. He has performed to critical acclaim with the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras as well as throughout Europe, the USA and Asia.
