Two Cellos In Concert At Lunchtime



Two founding members of Sydney Camerata perform at lunchtime this week at St James’ Church, King Street. Cellists Mathisha Panagoda and Ella Jamieson first met in 1998 as choristers in Gondwana Voices, Australia’s national children’s choir. They have been collaborating ever since.

Sydney Camerata was formed in 2008 and has since performed at Sydney’s major concert venues. Sydney Camerata won the 2010 Sydney Eisteddfod Musica Viva Award for Chamber Music and Musica Viva’s 2012 ‘Rising Stars’.

Mathisha Panagoda graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has toured internationally with the Aldeburgh World Orchestra, Britten-Pears Orchestra, YouTube Symphony Orchestra and Australian Youth Orchestra. He has performed at a number of festivals in Asia, Europe and North America and has undertaken two solo residencies at The Banff Centre in Canada.In 2013 the Sydney Camerata Quartet performed on ABC Sunday Live with Nicholas Russoniello and the Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra collaborated with the Sydney Chamber Choir to perform MacMillan’s Seven Last Words at Sydney University’s Great Hall.

Ella Jamieson also graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Whilst primarily a classical musician, she has many more strings to her bow performing regularly internationally in other genres including pop, jazz and original songs as both a cellist and pianist. Ella has performed as a guest with the Ho Chi Minh Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Camerata, Salt String Quartet and with singer/songwriter Abby Smith.
