The Streeton Trio will ‘jazz it up’ at their upcoming edition of the popular Prelude in Tea Sunday afternoon concert series with Sydney couple violinist Emma Jardine and pianist Benjamin Kopp joined by guest cellist, Blair Harris from Melbourne. Together they explore the works of composers who were inspired by jazz in this fun collection of works from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

The program features ‘Joybox’, a lively new commission by Harry Sdraulig, the much-loved ‘Cafe Music ‘ by Paul Schoenfield, Fazil Say’s effervescent ‘Space Jump ‘ and the Haydn ‘Gypsy Trio.’ As always, the concert includes a delicious selection of cakes and refreshments in the price of a ticket.

The link to the “Jazz Inspiration” theme in Haydn’s trio written in 1795, is the 3rd movement which is in the Hungarian style, very much the “pop” music of its time! These works are crowned by Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor.

The Streeton Trio was formed in 2008, in Geneva, Switzerland,by three young Australian musicians. In 2010, the trio was selected to be a part of the prestigious European Chamber Music Academy, where it was in residence for three years. Winner of the 2011 Music Viva Chamber Music Competition, the Streeton Trio has been laureate of several prestigious international competitions and in 2012, the trio was featured as Musica Viva’s Rising Stars ensemble.

The trio has released four CDs, to international acclaim, which are frequently featured on ABC FM and the MBS Networks.

Named after the Australian Impressionist painter, Sir Arthur Streeton, the trio has received great acclaim for its performances in venues such as Wigmore Hall, Het Loo Royal Palace (Holland), Melbourne Recital Centre, Trondheim Festival, Pablo Casals Festival (Prades) and Bangalow Festival.

Recent performances include appearances across the United Kingdom, China, Oceania, United Arab Emirates and Europe. Now based in Sydney, the trio is Fine Music Ensemble in Residence.
