The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra Twists And Turns With Circa

French-Baroque-v2

The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra presents an innovative programme, French Baroque, full of twists and turns in more ways than one.

Joining forces with Circa, an ensemble of  multi-skilled circus artists with Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz,  the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra conducted by Artistic Director Paul Dyer, will take you on a journey through heaven and earth, lit by romance and glamour

In French Baroque, Circa artists will embody and explore the exquisite music of Rameau, Lully, Marais and other heroes of the French baroque, performed on period instruments by the Brandenburg musicians.

Contemporary circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz will choreogaph a range of acrobatics and aerial acts into a seamless journey, supporting Paul Dyer’s revelatory pasticcio of music from across this era.

“Paul’s vision for the pasticcio brilliantly mixes the longing of night with the playful side of the French Baroque,” says Yaron.

“I have responded by creating a river of moonlight that divides the stage, reflecting singer and acrobat, musician and vocalist. In the interplay between delight and desire, between pleasure and abandonment, we see a world created where bodies seamlessly meld into song, where lives and loves intermingle and where the simple magic of singing speaks clearly to the heart.”

Joining the performers is French soprano and Baroque specialist Claire Lefilliâtre who has been one of the principal performers in the ensemble Le Poème Harmonique since 1999. Passionate about singing and baroque expression – particularly the interpretation of French and Italian music of the seventeenth century – Claire’s expertise in baroque repertoire has made her a favoured performer with several leading ensembles and has led her to sing on international stages including Opéra Comique in Paris, Opéra de Rouen, Opéra d’Avignon, Philharmonic Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome, Művészetek Palotája in Budapest, Bozar in Brussels and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Circa was established in 2004, and forged a new frontier in the concept of a circus – creating powerful works of circus art that challenge the distinctions between movement, dance, theatre and circus. Featuring an ensemble of multi-skilled circus artists under the direction of Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz, Circa’s award-winning works have been seen in 32 countries across six continents.
