Anna Da Silva Chen Performs With The Metropolitan Orchestra
The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) presents a grand concert which celebrates the end of another year of marvelous music making as well as introducing its 2016 performance season.
Conducted by TMO artistic director and chief conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, the final Met Concert for 2015 features young Australian virtuoso violinist Anna Da Silva Chen in one of the best known violin concertos of all time, and one of the most technically difficult works for the violin by Tchaikovsky – a fitting end to the 2015 season, and an indication of what’s to come in 2016 as TMO continue their support of exciting Australian soloists and composers.
Closing the 2015 season will be the bold and unconventional work of Sibelius’ Second Symphony. Inspired by the warmth and ease of an Italian seaside coastal town, the romantic work popularly dubbed the ‘Symphony of Independence’, moves from warm and gentle beginnings to a grandiose finale which will leave the audience wanting more.
A grand finalist of the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards in 2012 to 2014, Anna also won the Professor Jack Richards String Player Award (2014) at the Gisborne International Music Competition in New Zealand and the inaugural Ian Dunsmore Memorial Prize (2013), was a semi-finalist in the 2012 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in Beijing and also won the 2011 Kendall National Violin Competition and National Fine Music FM 102.5 Young Performer Award.
Anna has performed as soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House and the ACO Academy Orchestra at City Recital Hall. She has also appeared as soloist with the Tasmanian and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras.
The A-One Cafe in the ABC Centre will be open from 7pm for pre-concert drinks and snacks.
