Sydney Chamber Choir Live With Sun Music
The Sydney Chamber Choir returns to live performance with a program of choral works centred on the idea of hope and new light, Sun Music. The ensemble will be conducted by Artistic Director Sam Allchurch and joined by organist David Drury.
Sun Music is a celebration of light, beginning with the bright Australian dawn in Nigel Butterley’s exuberant Morning Fanfare and Clare Maclean’s We Welcome Summer. A spectrum of light, shade and tonal colours is shown in three contrasting movements from Scottish composer James MacMillan’s Strathclyde Motets. The program concludes with a masterwork of the twentieth century, the Requiem of Maurice Duruflé. This is a mass for the departed but also one for the living – offering a vision of an eternal light. This is a programme suffused with warmth and hope for an injured world.
This will be a 1-hour program without interval and all patrons will be required to wear a mask. To maintain safe social distancing, the total capacity of Verbrugghen Hall has been significantly reduced with additional spacing between seats. Given this, they will perform the program twice.
The choir has reuctantly postponed the premiere of Paul Stanhope’s Requiem which was to take place that day, to a date in 2021. If you hold tickets to the Requiem concert, you will receive an email from City Recital Hall about a refund.
