Sydney’s Newest Ensemble, The Blackwattle Trio Performs

Blackwattle trio

The Blackwattle Trio is a newly formed chamber group, bringing together three dynamic performers from Sydney’s Inner West, Martyn Hentschel (violin), Clare Kahn (cello) and Paul Myers (piano).

The trio derives its name from the Inner West’s Blackwattle Bay, which itself was named in 1788 after the Black Wattle tree commonly found in the bay and used as an invaluable source of building materials for the early colony. Today the bay is a vibrant hub of Inner West life.

The Trio performs  programme of  contemporary and romantic era music in Sydney in September and then heads up the coast later in the month to perform at the Bellingen Music Festival on Sunday September 21.

Program (Sydney):

Edwards, R: Piano trio

Piazolla, A: Winter and Spring in Buenos Aires

Shostakovich, D: Piano Trio No. 2

Schubert, F: Piano Trio in B flat
