The Benedetti Elschenbroich Grynyuk Trio is an ensemble that unites three of the world’s biggest names in classical performance. Touring nationally for Musica Viva from 3-20 November 2018, the trio takes its name from the musical powerhouses within – Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti, German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich, and Ukranian pianist Alexei Grynyuk. These performers developed an unshakeable bond as young students in London a decade ago which has prevaialed as they built their solo careers.

The trio performs in seven Australian cities after performances at the 2015 BBC Proms, the 2016 Southbank Centre’s International Chamber Music Series in London, and thei 2017-18 tour of North and South America. Leonard Elschenbroich performed recently in Australia on a 2014 Musica Viva tour with the Sitkovetsky Trio. In 2017, Nicola Benedetti became the youngest ever recipient of the Queen’s Medal for Music.

The choice of programming on this tour across two programs and nine concerts empowers each star with the chance to showcase their respective musical voices. The first half of the performances feature a sonata each for cello and violin – from Strauss in Program
One, and Prokofiev in Program Two. The second half fulfils a “rarely seen” programmatic choice as described by pianist Alexei Grynyuk, with subsequent piano trios from Brahms, Ravel, and Australian composer Gordon Kerry.
